Last month, Bradford Manufacturing Weeks (BMW) 2024, which is organised by the West and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce and SkillsHouse, successfully brought together manufacturers, students, and educational institutions to inspire the next generation of engineering and manufacturing talent.
Once again, Keighley Laboratories proudly took part in this initiative, offering hands-on experiences and insights into the world of manufacturing. Here’s a look at our activities and engagements throughout the event.
Welcoming Keighley College Engineering Students
As part of our commitment to fostering young talent, we welcomed a group of first-year engineering students from Keighley College to our facility. This visit provided the students with a unique opportunity to tour our lab, witness live demonstrations, and see the practical applications of concepts they’ve encountered in the classroom.
With guidance from our skilled team, students could experience our machinery in action, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world practice.
Engaging in the Employers and Apprentice Panel
In a valuable session, our Managing Director, Debbie Mellor, joined Keighley College’s Employers & Apprentice Panel alongside our apprentice, Sam. This panel facilitated important discussions about the significance of apprenticeships in the manufacturing industry, highlighting their role in building a skilled and knowledgeable workforce.
Debbie and Sam’s contributions underscored the impact of mentorship and practical learning pathways, inspiring both peers and aspiring apprentices in the audience.
A Memorable Visit from Eastwood Primary School
To conclude our involvement, we had the pleasure of hosting young pupils from Eastwood Community Primary School, introducing them to the exciting science behind our work. Highlights included a thrilling demonstration where we crushed a toy monster truck, delighting the children and sparking curiosity about the power and precision of industrial equipment.
Students also explored the microscopic details of various objects, encouraging an early interest in scientific discovery and engineering principles.
