Chemical Analysis Testing
Keighley Laboratories delivers the highest standards in chemical analysis our chemical analysis and corrosion services provide accurate qualitative and quantitative and data, trusted by industry-leading companies.Process
Comprehensive testing procedures for chemical analysis, corrosion testing and alloy verification to industry and customer specifications. Our typical processes include:
Performing chemical analysis of metal and their alloys, destructively and non-destructively on ferrous and non-ferrous alloys.
Our chemical laboratory testing processes include:
- Inductively Coupled Plasma
- Gas analysers
- Wet chemical analysis
- Combustion analysis
- Intercrystalline/Intergranular and pitting Corrosion (including G28, G48 etc)
An industry-leading and co-operating laboratory for qualifying Calibration Standards for Chemical Analysis
Benefits of Chemical Analysis
Chemical analysis can provide you with a wide range of benefits:
- Independent material overchecks
- Quality control
- Reverse engineering – identifying specifications with little or no previous data
- Failure analysis and investigations including litigation sample investigation
- Research and development
- The ability to analyse most sample sizes and forms
- Production / verification of test samples for use with PMI / alloy verification instruments
Analysis can be used to determine if the material matches a required specification, or as a tool to verify incoming material
Technical Specifications
Keighley Laboratories performs instrumental and classical chemical analysis. This is performed to determine the composition, identify different materials and evaluate susceptibility to corrosion from various environmental conditions.
Analysis Techniques
We provide a wide range of different analysis techniques. These are:
- Inductively Coupled Plasma and Atomic Absorption
- Inert gas fusion – oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen
- Combustion analysis methods for carbon, sulphur, nitrogen and oxygen
- Classical Gravimetric, Volumetric, Photometric and other “Wet” methods
- Component Cleanliness checks – debris weight and particle size
- XRF Positive Material Identification/Alloy verification – see Ancillary NDT processes
Typical Materials that can be analysed
Analysis of products, parts and samples made from materials such as:
- Ferrous: Iron, Carbon and Alloy Steels, Stainless Steel (including Duplex and super duplex steels), Tool and High Alloy Steels, Cast Iron and SG/Ductile Iron etc.
- Non-Ferrous: Aluminium and Aluminium Alloys, Copper and Copper Alloys (including Brasses and Bronzes), Titanium and titanium alloys, Nickel Alloys, Zinc Alloys, Cobalt Alloys, Tungsten Alloys, Magnesium, Powder Metals and “White Metals” etc.
- Chemical analysis is also undertaken on some non-metallic materials including foundry sand, some plating and other surface treatment solutions.
- Corrosion testing includes Intercrystalline/Intergranular/Pitting/Crevice methods to specifications which include: BS 5903, ASTM A262, ASTM G28 Ferric Sulphate, ASTM G48 Ferric Chloride, BS EN ISO 3651-2.
